2nd South Carolina Regiment records, 1778-1779.

Bound volume with only four pages and two endpapers remaining contains "Roll of non-commissioned officers and soldiers in Capt. Blake's Company made 8th March 1778" (1778-1779), "Inventory of arms & c cloathing [sic] & c delivered to the colonel's company," and "An inventory of arms, accoutrements, and cloathing [sic] delivered Captain Blake's Company in 2 Regiment 1 January 1778." Includes lists of courts martial, discharges, desertions, and sentences; and an inventory of clothing, arms, and supplies. The roll contains court martial records, discharges, desertions, and sentences. Inventories contain the names of individuals receiving caps, shirts, blankets, bayonets, muskets, and other goods. The inside cover contains "a method of calculating the quantity of corn in the cob" and number of arms "received of Lt. Baker."

The 2nd South Carolina was organized in summer 1775 at Charleston to consist of ten companies from eastern South Carolina. On Nov. 4, 1775, it was adopted into the Continental Army and assigned to Southern Department. Until Francis Marion took over the command of the regiment on Sept. 23, 1778, it had been under command of William Moultrie (June 1775 - Sept. 1776 and Isaac Motte (Sept. 1776- Sept. 1778).
